Who has not dreamed of touching the sky? The highest peaks on the planet are the closest point to the sky and it is possible to reach some of them without being an expert in mountain sports.

This is the cable car of the Aiguille du Midi , which is located in the needle of Chamoix and takes the traveler to a summit of 3,842 meters of altitude. This makes it the highest cable car in Europe and one of the most spectacular, since the view it offers of the French, Swiss and Italian Alps is unimaginable.

The Aiguille du Midi allows the traveler to be, in just 20 minutes , at the ” gates of heaven ” at 3,777 meters of altitude. Thanks to an elevator located in the station, you can access the terrace at the top, at 3,842 meters, from where you can admire the imposing Mont Blanc

During the ascent, you have more than a thousand meters of vacuum under your feet and the box made of glass allows you not to miss anything of the spectacular alpine landscape. For its part, the tube is made up of a 32-meter-long steel gallery  to surround the central python of the station. 

As for the environment, you cannot imagine a better one, it is an exceptional place that can only be understood if you live the experience . In addition, the location of the Aiguille du Midi is the starting point for many mountain races , including the ascent of the mythical Mont Blanc through the three Monts.

Once at the top, the station has benches and viewpoints in front of large windows where you can admire the best views of the impressive peak. In addition, it also houses a cafeteria and a souvenir shop that are open all year round and the “3842” restaurant . This offers a menu to taste Savoyard specialties in a unique setting.

Price and practical information

To make this trip it is necessary to bring the appropriate clothing and products . These are summarized in warm clothing, sunglasses and sun cream. On the other hand, children under 3 years old are not allowed to visit , and it is not recommended for those under 5 years old. In addition, the total visit lasts an average of 2 to 3 hours (including the trip). 

Regarding the price, there are three different passes . The basic is the day pass to the Aiguille du Midi for a price of €69 and this is followed by the day pass to the Aiguille du Midi and another area for €72 . The last one is the two-day long-stay pass in which you can enjoy all the areas offered by the station, all for €82.70 . These last two tickets must be booked at least three days in advance.

Aiguille du Midi opens at 8:10am , with the last cable car departure for a round trip at 4:00pm; he last outbound departure at 5:00 p.m.; and the last trip back at 5:30 p.m. In addition, the frequency of the cable cars is between 15 and 30 minutes, depending on traffic.
