This year has woken up with endless new hotel openings around the world. After months of paralysis, 2022 holds many surprises for us, some of them truly luxurious. Postponed again and again, on this occasion, everything indicates that the inaugurations will not suffer further delays.
To warm up the engines, we have selected nine of the most chic establishments, although there could have been many more. There are hotels for all tastes – in the city, by the sea, surrounded by exuberant nature, housed in historic buildings or in unique constructions – but they all share a common denominator: they will offer services capable of satisfying the most demanding guests.
If you like to enjoy exclusivity and luxury or if you are simply a dreamer waiting for an opportunity to jump in, you have a choice. Take note. In any case, they can be useful as inspiration for future trips. And one is not so far away!
Star Dome, Peru
It is undoubtedly one of the most impressive novelties of the year. Hidden at 3,000 meters above sea level, between the historic city of Cusco and the ancient Inca citadel of Machu Picchu, this establishment will not only offer extraordinary accommodation, but also allow an intimate connection with the sacred land and native traditions.
It is accessed through a private road that leads to a large geodesic dome perched on the side of the mountain. It has five suites and a restaurant inside the main StarDome, and a separate suite with a cabin-like structure. All of them are equipped with numerous luxuries and 360º views. The property will be managed by members of the local community, who organize activities and experiences such as excursions in the Sacred Valley.
Castle Elvira, Apulia, Italia
This abandoned castle for almost a century will open its doors this spring – there is still no definitive date – in the Apulia region, in southern Italy, after three years of work that has restored its splendor. Located 15 minutes from the city of Lecce, known for its barrack buildings, and 25 from Brindisi, it occupies an area of 15 hectares of olive trees, citrus trees and other vegetation.
The central building, which combines original elements, eclectic furniture and modern design, will have four rooms, which added to two more rooms in what was the gardener’s house, will house 12 guests. Castle Elvira will have a piano room, two restaurants, a cinema, a swimming pool and a spectacular rooftop terrace. One of its strong points will be gastronomy, in which products from the farm itself and other seasonal ingredients from local producers will stand out.
Four Seasons Resort Tamarindo, Jalisco Mexico
Built on top of a cliff, in a 12-hectare private ecological reserve on the Pacific coast of Jalisco, the Four Seasons Resort Tamarindo will be, when it opens to the public, a responsible and sustainable luxury establishment perfectly integrated into its surroundings. The complex will have a Discovery Center, a space that will invite guests to engage in interactive activities aimed at educating children about the diversity of native flora and fauna.
It will have 157 rooms distributed between the beach, the forest and the cliff, all of them decorated with stone, wood and local textiles. Organic spa inside the tropical forest, swimming pools, an 18-hole golf course, four restaurants and a beach bar will be some of the exclusive services of this new Mexican resort of the Canadian chain that will delight the most demanding clients .
Fruits, a Banyan Tree Escape, Bali, Indonesia
Staying in this quiet enclave surrounded by rice fields and an exuberant Balinese jungle will, without a doubt, be an immersive experience with unsurpassed nature. And it is that the establishment is a pioneer in the concept of “without walls or doors” throughout the property -including its 16 private villas-, which will make it possible for those who stay in it to feel that they are part of nature.
For the construction of the Buahan, the Banyan Tree Escape used Ulin wood, a type of very resistant material commonly used in docks and decks of fishing boats. An open kitchen has been set up in the heart of the resort where guests can put into practice a philosophy based on local sourcing and zero waste. The Botanist Bar complements a proposal focused on the use of ingredients and products grown in the area.
Aman, New York
In May, one of the most anticipated openings of recent times will finally arrive, that of Aman, New York, initially scheduled for the winter of 2020. And it is that the Crown Building, with an unbeatable location – the corner of Fifth Avenue and 57th Street, is one of the most coveted buildings in Manhattan. Its cover letter includes spectacular views over Central Park, 83 rooms with fireplaces, two restaurants, an excellent winery, indoor and outdoor pools, a nightclub, a terrace and a garden…
The hotel, which will have the distinctive Aman Spa, will also have 22 private residences and a five-story penthouse at the top, in the golden crown of the building, forming an ultra-luxury complex that is hard to beat.
Emerald Fashion, Maldives Resort & Spa
Built on a six-hectare private island in the beautiful Raa Atoll, the second resort of The Emerald Collection in Maldives is defined as a responsible and sustainable resort, ideal for disconnecting from the world. And it is that, as they have already announced, well-being will be a central element, with numerous spa and body care services.
The Emerald Faarufushi, Maldives Resort & Spa will have 80 private villas, mostly family, and an exclusive presidential villa, all carefully designed. Their care for the environment will be reflected in their daily activities, such as the limitation of plastics, the use of solar energy and composting techniques, and the use of electric vehicles and bicycles.
