VILLA DE ALQUÉZAR (Huesca)
In the Somontano region, between the ravines of the Sierra de Guara, on the right bank of the River Vero, in its last canyon, perched on limestone crests. There’s Alquezar. And there is this hotel, in the very heart of the town, located in a rehabilitated historic building from whose rooms (32 in total) it is possible to contemplate the entire environment, including the Collegiate Church of Santa María La Mayor, the main monument of the town. In the interior garden and in the pool it is easy to find total calm. We will need it to enjoy, later, some of the adventure sports that can be practiced in the surroundings.
Samaniego Palace, 10 km from Laguardia.
SAMANIEGO PALACE (Álava)
Ten kilometers from Laguardia , the capital of La Rioja Alavesa, Samaniego, at the foot of the Sierra de Toloño, is an obligatory stop on the wine route that we can take in the area. In its urban area, this palace stands out, a manor house from the 17th century, converted into a hotel. Its numerous works of art cultivate the contrast between historic stone and the modernity of interior architecture. It has nine rooms, named after grape varieties (Trempranillo, Malvasia…) and a Basque-French cuisine restaurant, with dishes such as blue Cantabrian lobster and Bresse pigeon.
Hotel Irigoienea.
HOTEL RURAL IRIGOINEA (Navarra)
A sundial engraved on the floor welcomes us to this old 16th-century tower-house that, before being a hotel, was a customs office and carabinieri barracks. It is easy to find: it is located in the Iribere neighbourhood, just at the entrance to Urdax, in the Baztán region, a few kilometers from Zagarramurdi. The building maintains its primitive wooden floor and a certain rustic air that is felt in its ten rooms. The homemade breakfasts are a delight. Although the best thing here is to enjoy the views offered by its viewpoint, with huge windows that open onto a green horizon.
Exterior of Hotel Nord.
HOTEL NORTH (Mallorca)
In a sunny square surrounded by picturesque streets, in the heart of Estellencs, in the heart of the Tramuntana mountains. These are the simple coordinates that will allow us to find this beautiful Majorcan-style stone and wood house. It has eight rooms, some with a balcony overlooking the town, and a bright garden patio next to which there is a room that preserves an old oil press. In either of the two spaces we can have breakfast (several types of bread, cheese, homemade sweets…) and think about going on an excursion. Perhaps to Puigpunyent along the Camino Real.
Posada Seis Leguas, in Riocorvo.
POSADA SIX LEAGUES (Cantabria)
Between the mountains and the sea, in the town of Riocorvo , on the banks of the Besaya River, just 15 kilometers from Santillana del Mar, this colonial house from more than a century ago was born with the vocation of simply being a place for break. It has eight rooms, with wooden beams on the ceiling and large windows. They are named after the trees in the garden: Orange, Lemon, Cherry… The name of the hotel refers to its geographical location within the Camino Real opened in the 18th century to connect the Castilian plateau with the port of Santander. Your pool is a real temptation.
Room of the Palacio Condes de Cirac.
PALACE CONDES DE CIRAC (La Rioja)
With just over 200 inhabitants, Villalba de Rioja, on the southern slopes of the Obarenes mountains, five kilometers from Haro, is a perfect place for excursions to the surrounding area. But also to discover it slowly. That’s what this 16th-century mansion is for, where you can breathe the history left by its noble inhabitants, including the family of Pedro Ruiz del Castillo, founder of the city of Mendoza in Argentina. It has five rooms and three suites, although it can be rented in its entirety. The patio of this Rusticae accommodation is a haven of peace, ideal for enjoying breakfast outdoors.
