On a trip to Europe, one of the main concerns is usually the budget. And it is well known that countries like the United Kingdom, Denmark or Sweden have a high cost of living: accommodation, meals and transport, among other things, inflate expenses. Despite this, cheap travel is not impossible in the Old Continent. There are very cheap destinations. The rule is simple: the further east the destination is, the cheaper it will be. Its price does not offset the beauty of its landscapes. Here we propose five very cheap destinations to discover the other part of Europe:

1. Greece

When we talk about Greece, we think of the most touristic stamps (and therefore, more expensive) such as Athens and the islands of Santorini, Crete or Mykonos. However, this country hides much more. If you travel to a lesser-known area, in the interior of the country, you will be able to discover the true Greek culture without overcrowding, as well as pleasing your palate with the rich local gastronomy such as moussaka, dolmades or their salads. There are also islands that may be cheaper, such as the island of Rhodes, with direct low cost flights in summer from several Spanish airports. In the homonymous capital, you can visit the place where the Colossus of Rhodes stood, one of the seven wonders of the ancient world.

2.Albania

Albania is becoming one of the low cost attractions in Europe. And it is that the country has been updated since the end of the communist dictatorship of Enver Hoxha thirty years ago, with the modernization of its infrastructures and premises. Nowadays it is a safe destination and above all very cheap: eating a menu in a restaurant costs between five and eight euros and a night in a four-star hotel is around fifty euros. The country offers a variety of options to tourists: from the Adriatic beaches to the inland Albanian Alps that invite hiking and trekking. You can find very cheap direct flights from Spain, sometimes even for less than 50 euros, round trip.

3.Bulgaria

Bulgaria is another of the European destinations without overcrowding, despite keeping beautiful landscapes a few hours by plane from home. We can find medieval cities, hot springs, ski resorts, impressive caves and forests and beaches, among other attractions. Although it is in the European Union, they do not have the euro as currency, but the Lev. Converted to euros, a night in a four-star hotel is around 40 euros and a menu to eat, between eight and ten. If you dare, the capital, Sofia, the Rila monastery, Plovdiv and Veliko Tarnovo are some of the essential visits.

4. Romania

Food is usually 40% cheaper than in other European countries. You can find accommodation for 35 euros a night and eat a menu for five euros -it should be borne in mind that the minimum wage for Romanians is €515.3 per month-. You can find round trip flights for about 70 euros and thus visit the country of Count Dracula and Transylvania. You cannot miss the capital of Romania, Bucharest, and its traditional historical and religious buildings such as the Patriarchal Palace or the Romanian Athenaeum. Very crowded is also the route through its most famous castles.

5. Slovenia

You can find hotel rooms for around 40 or 50 euros a night and eat a menu for eight euros. The most expensive are usually tickets to the main tourist attractions, with a price that ranges between ten and 25 euros. The good thing about Slovenia is its possibilities, because you can opt for mountainous routes, charming towns or its capital, Ljubljana, full of baroque architecture and large doses of history, in which you can still observe the cultural influences that make up the country. It should be remembered that Slovenia was part of the Eastern Roman Empire, the Ottoman Empire and that it was one of the republics of Yugoslavia -along with Croatia- until its independence in 1991.
