It’s been a year since the Six Senses Ibiza, a resort located in the delicious bay of Xarraca, was inaugurated by promoter and architect Jonathan Leitersdorf. Their hallmark is sustainability, which is taken very seriously here; to the point that they have managed to be the first hotel complex in the Balearic Islands to obtain the BREEAM certification, which evaluates and certifies the sustainability of the constructions. Environmentally friendly materials, improved insulation, energy self-sufficiency, proper waste and water management, zero tolerance for single-use plastics and local ingredients are the characteristics of this enclave by the sea.
There are countless travelers who already demand a type of luxury that is responsible with the planet and who appreciate the commitment of the place where they are going to spend their vacations. The Six Senses is nourished by them. Everything that happens here, from the gastronomic offer led by the Israeli chef Eyal Shani (HaSalon, The Orchard and The Farmers Market) to the Agora boutique —whose content is chosen by fashion gurus Daniela Agnelli and Tiffanie Darke— or the Its spa treatments are inspired by the traditions and values of this eclectic island, as bohemian as it is spiritual, as festive as it is connected with nature.
With that philosophy in mind, Six Senses Ibiza recently held the Alma Festival, focused on spirituality, well-being and connection, with an extensive program of events, live music, performances and culinary experiences. It also included talks with personalities such as Dave Asprey, the father of biohacking; wellness workshops with wellness expert Jasmine Hemsley, and workouts with The Class founder, Taryn Toomey. In addition, it featured two of the pioneers who have successfully brought meditation and other personal growth tools into the digital sphere: Vishen Lakhiani, CEO of educational platform Mindvalley, and Michael Smith, co-founder of Calm, the sleep app. Meditation and relaxation number one on the market.
The first part of the project was inaugurated in July 2021, and last May a second phase was opened designed for the fun and recreation not only of the guests, but also of the public of Ibiza in general, with the idea of creating a nourished environment by an interesting mix of tourists with locals. This is The Beach Caves, with an annual program of events that include art, live music and gastronomy through conferences, exhibitions or concerts. It is a concept devised by Ben Pundole, who has acted as creative director of this adventure. Pundole, author of the influential online platform A Hotel Life, has known the island since he was a child and has drawn on his own experience to bring the Ibizan festive spirit, mixing it with his attachment to craftsmanship and integration into the landscape to achieve a relaxed atmosphere.
From The Beach Caves are also six oceanfront suites that can be rented. One of them is the Royal Suite, with a secret door that communicates with a small but exquisite recording studio, just in case, you know, inspiration strikes and you need to go on record. There is also a cocktail bar and a restaurant with a splendid terrace, decorated with a colorful mural with a folkloric air full of birds and flowers —called The Assembly of Free Spirits, and painted by the artist Carlito Dalceggio—. The Beach Caves restaurant operates on a zero waste philosophy and guests are encouraged to offset their carbon footprint through Carbonfund.org. The other great attraction is what is called The Xarraca Room, a place for nightlife with an interior design that revolves around the idea of a secret garden created by the Fabre studio | Fauquie in collaboration with the designer Lydia Delgado.
Clearly, this is a place where nothing has been left to chance. Every detail is designed to contribute to that feeling of community and respect for the environment that is in Ibiza’s DNA and, contrary to other cases in which this concept remains aspirational, here it is perfectly integrated and fully achieved.
